Der „Scherenschnitt“; eine vor allem aus dem 18. und 19. Jh. bekannte Technik, die häufig von Laien benutzt wurde, dient ihr dabei bewusst als zeitgemäße künstlerische Ausdrucksmöglichkeit. Schröter lotet nicht nur die vielfältigen und bislang unterschätzten Möglichkeiten dieser Technik aus. Sie hinterfragt in ihren Arbeiten auch inhaltliche und bildnerische Klischees, die wir mit dem Begriff ÜBERSEE verbinden. Dieser stammt aus einer Zeit, als Menschen – existenzieller Not gehorchend – ihre Heimat verließen, zum anderen stand er aber auch immer für die unerreichbare Ferne und das exotische Unbekannte als Ziel aller Sehnsüchte.
