Er trifft auf Flüchtlinge und Nazis, auf gute wie auf schlechte Menschen. Noch nie hat man die Atmosphäre im Deutschland dieser Zeit auf so unmittelbare Weise nachempfinden können. Denn in den Gesprächen, die Silbermann führt und mithört, spiegelt sich eindrücklich die schreckenerregende Lebenswirklichkeit jener Tage.
