Japanischer Nationalroman Die hier erscheinende Erzählung ist in Japan am bekanntesten unter der Bezeichnung »Chiushingura«, das Buch der Vasallentreue, einer dichterisch ausgeschmückten Begebenheit aus dem Anfange des 18. Jahrhunderts. Es gibt etwa fünfzig verschiedene Bearbeitungen der Abenteuer der Helden der Vasallentreue sowohl in dramatischer als in erzählender Form. Am verbreitetsten ist das Drama »Chiushingura« von Takeda Izumo aus dem Jahre 1748 und die der vorliegenden Übersetzung zugrunde liegende Erzählung »Irohabunko« von Tamenaga Schunsui. (Hermann Plaut, 1905) Erstdruck der deutschen Ausgabe unter dem Titel »Treue über alles«: Stuttgart, Deutsche Verlagsanstalt, 1905 in der Reihe »Aus fremden Zungen«. Neuausgabe.
