In drei Teilen berichtet er darin - nach dem Muster von Dantes ›Göttlicher Komödie‹ - von einer dreitägigen Reise im Jahr 1943 in philosophische Lokationen, in denen die Grenzen von Realität und Fiktion aufgehoben sind: Er bewegt sich in der Verschränkung von Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft. Der Reisende »F. W.« projiziert unter der Führung seines wiedererstandenen ältesten und besten Freundes »B. H.« den geistigen und den politischen Zustand seiner realen Zeit und Gegenwart 1943 in die Welt der Astromentalen in utopischen Dimensionen. Dabei lernt er die eigene phantastische Vorstellungswelt als Bruchteil des Möglichen zu erkennen: in jenen fernen Zeiten leben die Menschen frei von Schmerz und Krankheit, Alter und Not, aber ohne Musik und Dichtung, jedoch auch ohne Arbeit. Zugleich findet er seine Hypothese aus der realen Gegenwart bestätigt, daß sie dann noch weiter von Gott entfernt sind, daß Hybris und Ranküne, Selbstüberhebung und Zwietracht der herrschenden Kräfte auch diese, die Jahrtausende spätere Welt zerrütten.
