Aber die exklusive Runde, die sich hier versammelt hat - ein Kinderbuchautor, eine französische Lyrikerin, ein Fernsehkoch, eine blinde Wahrsagerin und ein Historiker -, macht den beiden einen Strich durch die Rechnung, und darum herum tummeln sich zudem die Bewohner der Insel, die wegen einer geplanten Stromtrasse heillos zerstritten sind. Und prompt wird der Mäzen des Festivals brutal ermordet, und Hawthorne und Horowitz müssen den örtlichen Polizeikräften zu Hilfe eilen. Aber erst als ein weiterer Mord geschieht, gelingt es den beiden, dem Täter auf die Spur zu kommen und nebenbei noch einige andere Geheimnisse ans Tageslicht zu holen.
