Alkohol in der Schwangerschaft schädigt das Ungeborene. Es entstehen körperliche, geistige und seelische Beeinträchtigungen, die das Kind lebenslang begleiten. Der Fachbegriff für dieses Krankheitsbild heißt Fetale Alkoholspektrumstörungen (englisch: fetal alcohol spectrum disorder), abgekürzt FASD. Wenn ein Kind mit FASD auf die Welt kommt und sich nicht altersentsprechend entwickelt, müssen Eltern/Erzieher, Therapeuten sowie alle seine Bezugspersonen im Umgang häufig andere Wege gehen. Was sich so einfach liest, ist beschwerlich und mühsam, und oft genug fühlen sich Eltern/Bezugspersonen/Betreuer auf diesem Weg allein gelassen. Jedoch gibt es Menschen, die diesen Weg bereits gegangen sind, die Wegweiser in schweren Zeiten sein können und möchten. Sie haben sich daher bemüht, in diesem Ratgeber Hinweise und Informationen zum Umgang mit Menschen mit FASD zu geben.
